Frequently asked questions.

Who is part of the FRA?

Once you earn your Freedom award you automatically become an FRA member and remain one for life. Because of TLUSA youth protection policies, FRA programs and events are organized for adults only. If you earn your Freedom award before 18, please stay active in your troop, and we will invite you on your 18th birthday to be involved in the FRA programs and events.

Do I have to have an active TLUSA membership to be part of the FRA?

In order to participate in local troop meetings and activities, you must be a registered adult member of Trail Life USA. Because the FRA is largely focused on inspiring the next generation of boys working towards their Freedom Award, encouraging troop service such as speaking at meetings or being on boards of review is a significant part of our goal. As such, to be an active member of the FRA, you must be a registered adult member of TLUSA. We will also have regional and national adventures and events just for the FRA, but a Trail Life membership is required to be covered under the TLUSA insurance at these events.

If your Trail Life membership lapses, you will still receive our newsletters and event information as an inactive member, but will need to renew your membership before attending events or serving with the FRA.

Scholarships

Because many Rangemen are in college or just starting their career, we know you may be in a situation where money is tight. If you need help covering membership or event costs, please reach out to the FRA advisor, Brian Dawson, at bdawson@traillifeteamusa.com.

We are also hoping to offer college scholarships, internships, and career opportunities just for members of the FRA. If you are interested in helping us develop these opportunities, please contact us.
